"Loretta Lee's Question on
God's Rest"
Hebrews 4:11 admonishes us "let us labour therefore
to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief."
Laboring to rest would first seem to be a contradiction
until the two-edged sword of God's word pierces, and we must admit that
entering into His rest is actually the most difficult endeavor in the Christian
walk, and sadly the most neglected (as the saying goes "the flesh dies
hard."); and we must indeed "work" on finding out how to enter into His
rest -- we must concentrate on doing it, aim to do it, be certain that
we do it, sacrifice to do it, learn the scriptures that show us how to
do it.
One way to LABOR to ENTER INTO REST is by acknowledging
as scripture teaches that it is not only difficult, but impossible to enter
into His rest because our basic human nature runs so contrary to it. So
since it's impossible, I won't even try it. Whew! That is a relief
in itself. Blood pressure might come down right there, and depression scatter
too! Now I know that when I awake each morning, I can say "I
can't do it, and I don't have to try. Jesus kept the ten commandments on
the cross for me and by the indwelling Holy Spirit HE WILL DO ALL IN ME
today. I know that grace will take me into rest today IF I am willing."
"...PRESENT your bodies a living sacrifice...Romans 12:1
"...even so now YIELD your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
Romans 6:19. Once laid on the altar, THE LORD will consume the sacrifice
-- it is His job -- not ours. How quickly our Lord works once he
finds a truly surrendered will -- A PLACE WHERE HE CAN DWELL. God
is resting in us, and we in Him. This is the quality of eternal life.

"MY SOUL HAS FOUND A RESTING PLACE,
NOT IN DESIGN NOR CREED,
I SERVE THE EVER LIVING ONE
HIS WOUNDS FOR ME SHALL PLEAD.
I NEED NO OTHER ARGUMENT
I NEED NO OTHER PLEA
IT IS ENOUGH THAT JESUS DIED
AND THAT HE DIED FOR ME."
