DNC Calls the Doctor

Dr. Howard Dean
Dr. Dean, a Vermont physician as well as it's former Governor, replaces former Clinton insider Terry McAulliffe as the Democrat's top official. Dean said his top priority would be to try and entice the Red States to change colors.

Dean told reporters, “I’ll pretty much be living in red states in the South and West for quite a while. The way to get people not to be skeptical about you is to show up and say what you think.”

Then he demonstrated the art of how best to rephrase what you say to hide what you REALLY think. To accomplish that, Dean is redefining the Democratic platform. Not by changing policies, but rather by spinning what those policies are.

For example, Dean announced that the Democrats are not pro-abortion. Instead, he announced that the Democrats “are the party in favor of allowing women to make up their own minds about their health care.”

That sounds far more reasonable than being the party that favors a buffer zone around clinics to prevent pro-life groups from suggesting alternatives to abortion. And Democrats are not for “gay marriage.”

Instead, Dean explained, “We are the party that has always believed in equal rights under the law for all people.” Doesn’t that sound reasonable?

But the facts remain that just as in abortion, there is no change in policy. Just a clever new spin. Hillary Clinton is using the same technique.

Dean told his party, “It is time to seize the high moral ground from Republicans. Democratic positions were consistent with ‘religious values.’”

He evidently hoped noone would ask him to define religious values.

As Dean said above, he will be smoozing in the Red States for a long time. Dean told reporters, “The way to get people not to be skeptical about you is to show up and say what you think.”

It is unlikely that what Dr. Dean thinks will change any minds in the Red States, unless he no longer thinks the same things he thought during his campaign for the nomination.
