Knesset OKs surrender of Gaza, N. Samaria

Israel’s Knesset Wednesday decided to abandon the Jewish peoples’ biblical birthright and relinquish control over the Gaza Strip and northern Samaria to the nation’s Arab enemies.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s “Expulsion Compensation Bill” passed by a vote of 59-40 in the plenum, paving the way for the forced evacuation of the Jewish populations of those areas.

Unlike the Knesset’s only previous decision to uproot Jewish settlers in accordance with Israel’s peace treaty with Egypt, the surrender of Gaza and northern Samaria will take place in the absence of peace and as a direct result of relentless Arab aggression.

Hamas and other “Palestinian” terror groups have already said they view the planned pullout as a victory for their campaign of murder against Israel’s Jews.

The plan may still come to naught if the Sharon government fails to gain Knesset approval for its proposed 2005 national budget by March 31.

History in the making

Wednesday’s vote on the Expulsion Compensation Bill lasted for hours as MKs debated and voted on some 800 proposed amendments.

In the end, the plenum held the required second and third readings of the bill and voted 59-40 in favor of it, granting official legislative approval for the Sharon government to forcibly uproot the Jewish residents of Gaza and northern Samaria.

Amendments calling for a national referendum on the law were soundly defeated.

The new law will face a cabinet vote on Sunday, but is expected to pass by a comfortable margin.

Opposing God’s Word

The first five books of the Bible record the covenant by which the Almighty grants sovereignty over what is today Israel, Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip to the descendents of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The book of Joshua notes that Gaza was to be included in the land allotted to the Tribe of Judah.

The prophet Amos later states that following 2,000 years of exile, God would "plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them." (Amos 9:15)

Sharon’s effort to contravene that promise may yet be thwarted if his government fails to pass the controversial 2005 national budget.

The government has until March 31 to gain Knesset approval for the budget, or new elections will be held.

The budget’s passage is anything but assured.
