RETURN OF COMET HALE-BOPP

The Comet Hale-Bopp will again be visible in the northern hemisphere from late August through late October in the early morning hours before sunrise. It will be difficult at best to see the comet with the naked eye, but it will be visible through binoculars and telescopes. Though the comet will not be very bright at that time, it will be in an interesting position in the heavens. Hale-Bopp will be in the constellation Argo (Noah's Ark) from mid August to late December. Argo represents a place of refuge for God's people in a time of great trouble on Earth. Such was the case during the Great Flood (see the article "The Great Flood" in the August, 1996 issue of Biblical Astronomy). This is particularly interesting since Hale-Bopp, as seen from Earth, comes from the constellation Pavo which represents Argos (Noah) the shipbuilder of Argo (see "A Voice Crying in the Heavens", page 61), and was last seen in this part of the solar system "in the days of Noah"!

Another interesting tidbit (this will cost you nothing extra) came to me via e-mail from Bob Schlenker, Christian Research Ministries, from an e-mail sent to him by Bill Cloud, Voice of Evangelism Ministries. The following is a quote from this message: "This upcoming Jewish year 5758 is spelled tav, shin, nun, chet. Nun, chet spells the name "noah". The year forms an acrostic for the "season of Noah." The year 5758 will begin this September according to the Hebrew Calendar (October according to the Jewish Talmudic Calendar). At either reckoning, Hale-Bopp will be in Noah's Ark at this time.

Chart 38 shows the path of Hale-Bopp from June 1, 1997, to September 4, 1997. The comet is not visible in the northern hemisphere of the earth from June 1, to early August. The comet passed through the constellation Monoceros from mid June to mid August. Monoceros (the Unicorn) is a modern constellation and not one of the original 48 constellations of the Mazzaroth, if it was, I would quote Daniel 8:5. It may have been part of Canis Major or Canis Minor in ancient times.

Chart 39 shows the path of Hale-Bopp from September 4, 1997, to December 1, 1997. The three constellations Puppis, Vela, and Carina are the modern names of the constellations which, as a whole, make up the ancient constellation Argo. Carina is the keel of the ship, Puppis the stern, and Vela the sail. I do not believe that Noah's Ark had a sail (it was more like a floating barge), but in its more ancient form, the picture of the constellation Argo may have appeared different.
