"the weaknesses of the fathers visits the sons"

I learned something very interesting recently from a Restoring the Foundation ministry I went through. It had to do with gaining freedom from sins of the fathers and curses. The word iniquity as in the iniquity of the fathers also means weaknesses. The devil knows our weaknesses, they follow from generation to generation. In fact it seems to be exaggerated or even greater in the following generation. The scripture is in Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them not serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and forth generation.

Isn't it interesting how we see this even in Christian families. I recall recently meeting a very kind Christian man who was troubled with being easily offended. His son is a pastor that he is very proud of and who seems quite strong in the faith. However after a while I began to discover how easily this man was offended, much greater than the father. It seemed as if nothing could be said that would not be taken wrong. I realized that I too have similar problems. That there are areas of my flesh that cause me trouble that I had been ignoring. As I began to do some family study of my ancestors or family relatives I discovered similar circumstances  and situations that I had also lived also occur in the lives of those who proceeded me even though I and they are Christian.

In Leviticus 26:40 But if they will confess their sins AND the sins of their fathers.... and humble themselves.... then I will remember my covenant. It is interesting to see Daniel and other prophets asking God to forgive their sins and the sins of their fathers. What God says is true. He does break the curse of the law as if says in Galations 3:13. However Christ continually deals with us. It is an ongoing thing to submit ourselves on a daily basis that we must choose to yield to God in areas that we have difficulty with. Some of these things are very hard and we wonder why we have such a struggle with them. The reason some of these sins are so troublesome is because they are weaknesses brought on by our ancestors for their iniquities or weaknesses.

The good news is that we do not need to be slaves to our weaknesses. We can be set free by truly forgiving others, even our ancestors and asking God to forgive us and our ancestors just as the prophets did. Forgiveness is such a struggle for some of us, but it really is the only answer for most of our problems.

God bless
