"We
desperately want Home; thoughts on our present
rearrangement of deck chairs"
How strong is the desire to be at Home, in a place
where we are loved!
How much we want to be in a place where the "bottom
line"--money--is not the controller of all!
We pray the Holy Spirit to give us enough faith to persevere to
the end.
The present presidential nominating race in America is sometimes
entertaining, but its bottom line is how to manipulate people
and money into unkind places. There is not enough kindness
or money to go around, so our learned leaders (some with very
brainy minds) tell us how it would be fair to arrange chairs on
the deck of the Titanic.
Actually, there might have been enough to go around if some had
not been greedy. Ananias and Sapphira live among us, those
who lie about where our money went.
Do we want the Lord to strike down these greedy ones, as he
struck down Ananias and Sapphira? It's tempting, but we
are told to try to forgive.
And we continue to pour money into war. I leave it to
someone else to debate whether that was or is a good idea.
Without war, one candidate says,
we could have had plenty of money and even now could have plenty
within a short time. So is the Devil bankrupting us
through war? How much should we
pour into our staunch ally, Israel? As Christians, we
support Israel, but will we be able to afford it without grave
hardship for our own people?
And we are cynically told that war will improve our economy, as
it has in the past. Who can understand this? Does
war increase the amount of food and shelter available,
or simply rearrange it, again like deck chairs on the Titanic?
It will be hard to have faith. Holy Spirit, be among us
who groan in sadness at what is. We need our just and
merciful King.
