"New Year - Eve of Destruction?"

New Year - Eve of Destruction?

Jesus:  Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction, and many are those who are entering through it. (Matthew 7:13 - Amplified)

But you tell me over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction (Barry Maguire song)

Broadway to Destruction (Loss)

In a letter on 28 December, Jan drew attention to the words of the song Eve of Destruction.  I think we often overlook the important words of Jesus - the broad way leads to destruction!  This is a warning not only for the individual, but also for the moral decay of society, for nations who are blinded by the Deceiver!  Perhaps an illustration may highlight this:   in many countries the same sex marriage push has been strong and relentless (very much a bandwagon, like the  overcrowded Indian trains!), yet at the same time, these same voices are almost silent when it comes to abortion – the right of an unborn child to be born!  There comes a time when God must intervene, especially for the unborn children and also the born children who are being brought into a sin soaked world.  The ‘train’ is heading (relentlessly) towards destruction and, in the time that we have remaining on this Earth, we can but intercede for our nations and rejoice that many people are being translated from the kingdom of darkness to the Light of Jesus Christ.

The train in Australia:  a recent train incident in the Northern Territory provides a graphic illustration.  A few days ago, heavy rains and floods near a river destroyed parts of a railway line to Katherine.  A train tried to cross the flooded Edith River but was derailed.  To make matters worse, there were chemical spills.  What a picture of the world heading into these difficult times - heading towards what Jesus calls destruction.  How difficult will 2012 be?  Are we really aware of the toxic nature of many of the trends in the world around us.
