"TO: Michael Lorion RE: Rev 6:2 response"

Hi Michael,

Here are some examples of a crown being given to 'one who is deserving of a crown' that takes nothing away from the fact that our salvation is a free gift from the Lord. On the other hand, our santification comes as a result of OUR OWN ACTIONS ie. what we do with our free gift of salvation after we accept it:

James 1:2
"Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for WHEN HE HAS BEEN APPROVED, HE WILL RECEIVE THE CROWN OF LIFE which the Lord has promised TO THOSE WHO LOVE HIM." (one's actions must 'be approved' - ie. be deserving of it - to receive a crown)

Revelation 2:10
"...BE FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH, and I WILL GIVE YOU THE CROWN OF LIFE." (one must be 'faithful unto death' to be deserving of a crown)

2 Timothy 4:8
"Finally, there is laid up for me THE CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, which the Lord, the righteous judge, WILL GIVE ME ON THAT DAY, and not to me only but ALSO TO ALL WHO HAVE LOVED HIS APPEARING." ( one must 'love His appearing' to be deserving of a crown)

Also, Jesus has MANY CROWNS on His head:

Revelation 19:12
"His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were MANY CROWNS."

You could be right about the rider on the white horse BUT, nowhere in Scripture does the 'color white' indicate deception. Also nowhere in Scripture is a 'crown given' to indicate deception. Others who are evil 'have crowns', but Scripture does not say they were 'given crowns'.
The 'Word of God' is referred to in Scripture as 'a double-edge sword' which is certainly a weapon, so The 'Gospel of Christ' could be referred to here as a 'bow'. The Holy Spirit does have as His mission (ie. conquest) to carry the Gospel to the whole world whether the world accepts it or not. "And then the end will come."

Your brother in Christ,
