New Year’s
Eve
It is said the “most popular” place to be on New Year’s Eve
is New York City. This city is headquarters to the United Nations. At one time
it was the capital of the United States. It no longer is the capital, but holds
significant prominence as the “financial capital,” and has the highest
population. It is said to be the leading global city by
Wikipedia.
The “world,” would hold each of these previously mentioned
attributes in high esteem. However, the Bible might consider them to be resume’
qualifications for the city dubbed “Babylon the Great.”
The “nickname” for New York is the “Big Apple.” Is this some
“mockery type reference” to the fruit that lured mankind into sin &
death?
Over the last 100 years, a tradition has been built to the
“ball dropping” in New York City’s Times Square. A 6 foot “Waterford crystal
ball” is dropped, reaching the bottom 60 seconds later, as the clock strikes “Midnight”.
New Year’s Eve has taken on a “sinful” celebration style,
including alcohol and other indulgences.
It is a celebration in anticipation of “Midnight” and
the new year.
Several significant prophetic happenings have taken place at
“Midnight” in
the Bible:
· The Egyptians
first born sons were all struck dead. This led to the ultimate release of the
Hebrew slaves know as the “Exodus.”
· Samson tore
the doors of the gates of the city off of his people’s enemies – the
Philistines.
· Ruth was
noticed by Boaz laying at his feet.
And, the five wise “virgins” awaiting Jesus’
coming:
Matthew
25:5-7
5While the bridegroom
tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6And at “Midnight”
there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7Then
all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
It is
said by Wikipedia that religious groups have “watch nights” on New Year’s Eve
(1st held as a tradition in 1732 – today this is largely
lost).
Slaves
watched in great anticipation in 1862, as it was the arrival of 1863 that
brought forth the Emancipation Proclamation. This official word declared them
to be “free.”

146 + Eternity, World + End, Conclusion + For the LORD knows + Hast thou

man.
