Hi Don,
I'm reminded by your question how Paul refers to the church as being "espoused" or engaged to the Lord. . 2 Cor. 11:2. He calls it a "great mystery" being joined to Christ.
. . . "For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church." . . . Ephes. 5:30-32
Scripture says this is exactly the relationship our Lord Jesus desires to have with His church, which is also referred to as His "body" . . . Romans 12:4, 5; I Cor. 12:12; Ephes. 3:6; Ephes. 4:4-16; Col. 1:18.
Will not our relationship with Jesus be spiritually consummated at a future wedding ceremony at the Marriage of the Lamb" Rev. 19:7 . .
It's wonderful to know, too, our Lord is not marrying a City, but a Bride . . amen!!
That's how I understand it . .
blessings, Don
