I was deep in thought and prayer last night, and I realized I could not answer why we celebrate our Lord and Savior's, Jesus Christ's birth in Dec. Can someone help me understand?
In his Name....

The official story you may get is that the Catholic Church chose to superimpose "Christmas" over the Roman "Saturnella" holiday to not take away a holiday, but redirect pagans to celebrating Christ's birth. There are those, (Zola Levitt I believe) who have proposed Christ being conceived at Passover and through His development in the womb paralleled the various feasts leading up to His birth during Hanukkah, starting Kislev 25, the Festival of Lights, which falls around December and can truly be linked to Christ as the Light of the World. Or He could have been conceived during Hanukkah and then born around Rosh Hashana. Both carry symbolism with His dedication at the temple on the 8th day either being on Yom Kippur or on the 8th day of Hannukah. The calendar day count fits being conceived during Hanukkah much better if we go with Jesus being carried to term. There are also many who state that shepherds watch flocks in the open in the Spring and Fall, not during the Winter. I know there are many sites that discuss this such as:

And because of all the evidence I've seen, I think it is highly likely that the Light of the World, came into the World, that is, He was conceived during the Festival of Lights, which starts Kislev 25.
