"forced visions, hyperspirituality, and other anomoly"

The reason I am bringing this up is because of certain incidences and the recent study I am doing re Ellen G White, the prophetess of the 7DA church. My relatives have been exposed to this so I decided to read some of her early writings, visions etc.

There was a teaching at that time not only by the 7da but other denominations re the sabbath being only allowed on Saturday. The 7da at that time believed that Jesus would return in 1845 based on their calculations of the book of Daniel. Didn't happen. There was a big falling out after that. Ellen was much enamered by this teaching and also greatly disappointed when it didn't happen. She started having these long visions re heaven and prophetic things. One vision she had was of seeing the ten commandments on 2 tablets. The first tablet had 4 commandments and shown greater then the others. A greater light was on the 4 the commandment thus meaning it was the most significant commandment. Also in another subsequent vision she was told that the 1st day sabbath was a sign of the mark of the beast, also that judgment began in 1845. Kind of like the JW who believe Christ returned in spirit in 19 something.

Now we have a whole denomination that bases itself on those visions.
But you know we are all susceptible to this sort of thing. The many past rapture dates verified by some word or vision comes to mind. I have also read books that the whole book was a vision, such as one by a fellow in day star ministries. We really need to question some of these. We are susceptible by the things we see and hear and want to believe.

Going back to Ellen White. One thing that struck me after watching the dovies for many years was the 4 commandments on one side and 6 on the other. 5 represents grace and God is very specific with his numbers so lop sided commandments did not make sense.  Googling Hebrew  commandment images seemed to confirm that . Also, why would the 4th commandment superimpose the 1st, I am the Lord thy God you shalt not worship idols? Doesn't make any sense. Then of course the judgment started in 1845 is also pretty ridiculous. The Mark of the beast certainly is a mark that many will be forced to receive in order to do commerce. It is not a day of worship.

Anyway we can not afford to let visions become our guide posts. So when we hear a vision we must always weigh it properly.
