TRUE STORY!

I’m a dog person.  I’ve had dogs my whole life.  Right now, our favorite ever lives with us!   She’s a red Cocker, {think:  “Lady” from “Lady & the  Tramp”}  she’s 7 ½  years old, although tell-tale signs of aging are upon her!  (losing tons of body mass, looks bony)  She’s been with us for 6 years.  {she was a rescued pound puppy! ~ and we can NOT believe that anyone coulda’ “thrown her away”…. How precious her love is!}  She’s soooo sweet!!   Kind, loving, GENTLE!!  After we took her in, I had to toss out all the books written by the so-called “experts” on how to train a dog – this one responded only to love!!   There are going to be big holes in our hearts when we lose this one – she is very special.  She’s like my “soul mate” dog; with separation anxiety, she bonded with her human family & she’s firmly devoted & attached to us, and us to her!

She has always tried so hard to understand everything we talk to her about!   And when she’s not sure, she’ll “cock” that head from one side to the other, with those big, fluid-brown eyes focused on us, trying to take in, interpret & understand every single word.

There’s so much she does understand!  Like when DH comes home!  Do you want to go for a walk?  Do you want to go for a drive?   Where’s your toy?  Where’s your friend?  And ~ many others.

Well, anyway, this afternoon, I was telling her in a very gentle way that The One Who created her would be coming for us soon.  I said, “Jesus is Lord”!   Then, I asked, “Where’s Jesus?”   I pointed up & naturally her little head looked STRAIGHT UP!!

Then I told her, “Jesus is going to be coming for us soon!”  She actually started shaking!   And then, she quickly hopped off the couch, ran upstairs to her window she looks out from & looked to see (if maybe He was here!)   Hmm… no one there.  She turned around & still standing at the top of the stairs, she whined a little bit (like she was a little sad that He wasn’t here!)

Honestly, we have absolutely no “cue words” that were said when merely telling her that “Jesus would be here soon!”   NO CUE WORDS like “someone’s at the door” or “go check your window” or anything such!!!!   So it was, well ~ nothing short of amazing that she even decided on her own to run upstairs & look out the window at that point!

When she got thru’ whining, and came back downstairs, she got back on the couch & looked, not once, but twice, at the large framed picture we have there that has the “May the Lord bless and keep you” Scripture on it ~ again, VERY UNUSUAL for her to pay any attention or even look at that picture!!  But her eyes went RIGHT TO IT, not near it, not past it, but directly staring at it & then back at me – twice!  It’s almost like you wonder if sometimes animals can understand more in the spiritual world than we give them credit for.

I know Christians can debate over many things:  prosperity, OSAS, health, who may be a false prophet, etc. etc. and I expect another debating issue is over pets going in the rapture.  Sadly, I personally do not think they do (although it’s nothing short of God’s power if it’s what’s in His plans!).  However, even though I do not think they’ll be raptured, I do believe that if it’s our heart’s desire the Lord can restore them to us at some point in eternity!

Our Punkin seemed to understand (well, okay, some of you will think I was merely projecting this) but honestly, for real, she seemed quite calm & serene over the thought of being able to playing on green grass forever!  Of being with us forever.  Of being loved forever.  (She was not loved for the first year & half of her life, so no doubt, she remembers what that was like!)   And at first, it was a bit of a scary thought to think of the One Who created us coming for us, but she quickly got past that and quickly ran to the window to see if He was here!
