Why?
1st - 40 years since the Israelis took back Jerusalem.  (Achem's Razor principal: The simplest answer is the right one)  40 years in the desert; 40 years after Jesus' death, Israel destroyed; and now, 40 years since the Jews took back Jerusalem....but did NOT take back the Temple Mount
 
2nd - Iran ready to go nuclear with the stated intent to destroy Israel. And.....Israel CANNOT afford to let this happen.  But, Israel looks very very weak to their enemies now, after the fiasco that past summer. And the UN is no help to keep their enemies from restocking missiles in Lebanon.
 
3rd - And now, the Iran Study Group.....willing to sacrifice the land of Israel for "peace" with Iran et al.  JUST LIKE Neveille Chamberlain did with Germany using the Czechoslavokia as the sacrifice. see:    www.omegaletter.com/articles.asp?ArticleID=6010
