Greetings,
Part 2: Mercury of the Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter Conjunction
This is the 2nd part of a series of postings on the role of the conjunction of Mercury, Mars, Jupiter in the Star of Bethlehem. This part deals with Mercury in the scriptures.
MERCURY
After the 3 planets (Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter) conjuncted, they all peeled off, one by one, landed on Virgo’s head, and traveled down at least part way down her body.The 1st star to ‘peel off’, land on Virgo’s head, also passed through her whole body and out of sight by the feast of trumpets on Sept 29/30, 2bc. Mercury then fulfills the role of John the Baptist in the sense, that it came first and proclaimed a message, i.e.: ‘Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me:’ (Mal 3:1; see also Mark 1:2). Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, and travels the fastest, and hence is called by the Greeks as ‘the messenger’ or speaker giving a message, as Acts 14:12 attests:
Acts 14:12 ‘And they called Barnabas, Jupiter;
and Paul, Mercurius, because he was ---the chief speaker.---’
Just as Mercury is the messenger, speaking a message, there is an angel in Rev 8:13 ‘flying around in the midst of heaven’ (doesn’t this sound like the fastest planet called Mercury) which gives the message, ‘woe, woe, woe’. Then, in the next verse, Rev 9:1, the 5th angel sounds his trumpet. I think this 5th angel is symbolically Mercury. However, I believe the book of Daniel tells us the name of this angel. Bible students have long recognized that Daniel and Revelation talk of the same subject matter. Beyond the scope of this study, is the fact that you can find matches between each chapter of Daniel and Revelation, i.e. Dan 1 matches Rev 1, Dan 2 matches Rev 2, etc. Hence, in Daniel 9, there is an angel flying around giving a message:
Dan 9:21 ‘Yea, whiles I [was] speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly,…’
Notice both Dan 9:21 and Revelation 8:13 have an angel flying swiftly:
Dan 9:21 ‘...Gabriel... being caused to fly swiftly
Rev 8:13 ‘flying around in the midst of heaven’
This is why I believe the 5th angel, represented by Mercury, is Gabriel.
If the 5th angel, represented by Gabriel, is Mercury, then it shouldn’t be a surprise that the 6th angel, represented by Mars, is Michael (I'll cover this in the next part of this series.)
