"Syria feels justified in attacking Israel"

From Agape Press, December 20, 2006

...A conservative Israeli activist says thanks in part to the Hamilton-Baker Iraq Study report, Syria feels justified in attacking Israel over the Golan Heights. Avi Lipkin is an American-born author and lecturer who is back in the United States warning Christians about the impending crisis in the Holy Land. He says the Hamilton-Baker report's recommendation that Israel turn the Golan Heights back over to Syria will allow the Syrians to justify an attempt to take it back. "The moment they have that approval from Baker, they are going to make this miscalculation that they can go ahead and attack Israel to take the Golan Heights and that the world will support them," Lipkin contends. "We are very close to a war with Syria," he says, adding that that country is even now moving missiles up to the Israeli border. "We are not talking anymore about if there will be a war with Syria, but when," the activist observes. But while the Israelis consider Prime Minister Ehud Olmert one of the worst leaders in their history, Lipkin points out, he does not think Olmert will be kicked out of office for the time being. "We usually do not have elections when a war breaks out or is about to break out," the author says, "so as long as there is this Syrian threat against Israel, Olmert will not be deposed." But once the Syrian crisis is over, Lipkin adds, Israeli voters will likely elect another leader. [Chad Groening]
