Phishing -- alert!
Jim Bramlett

Dear friends:

There are many phony emails circulating that claim to be from legitimate financial institutions, such as banks, credit card companies, PayPal, Earthlink, and probably many more.  I have received many.  They even copy the logos and Web pages of the companies they are claiming to be and it is virtually impossible to tell them apart.  They look and sound very authoritative.  It is called "phishing."

They ask for private and personal financial information, which allows them to steal from your accounts.  They fish for this information by sending millions of emails, and they get enough money to make themselves wealthy.  These bogus emails are reportedly originating from all over the world.

RULE: REGARDLESS OF HOW REAL SUCH AN EMAIL MAY LOOK, NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR I.D. INFORMATION, SUCH AS BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER, CREDIT CARD NUMBER, OR ANY PASSWORDS.  DO NOT EVEN CLICK ON THEIR WEB SITES, AS THERE MAY BE  VIRUSES INVOLVED.  If in doubt, first call the financial institution in question.

A TV report on this said that about 5 percent of the people bite on this scam and an average of $1,200 is stolen from their accounts, but it could be much more money in individual cases.  The scam is causing the perpetrators to reap billions from innocent people.

To keep from being caught, their phony Web sites close down in just a few days.

ANOTHER ONE: By now everyone is probably aware of the scam of emails from widows or sons, etc., of deceased African government leaders who stashed away millions of dollars they say they want to share with you if you will help them get it released, which you later find involves you putting up money (naturally).  They clam to be committed Christians, but they are deceiving sickos.  This has been going on for several years, but I am getting more and more of them.  Many have bitten on this one.

BEWARE!

Jim
