Dear friends:
The below article by Jan Markell is interesting. I pass it along because I did not know that the so-called "Bible Answerman," Hank Hanegraaff, is an apparent preterist and also embraces replacement theology. (A preterist is one who believes prophecy has already been fulfilled, which is totally unbiblical.) I am not surprised that this "Bible Answerman" has the wrong answers. I got turned off with Hanegraff years ago with his un-Christian attacks on various Christian leaders, often taking their words out of context.
(By the way, except to a preterist, Nero was not the antichrist, but was a type of antichrist to come.)

WAS NERO THE ANTICHRIST?

There is a line forming in the sand over the nation of Israel. There are various theologies surrounding her past, present, and future. The "religious Left" has derided her forever because they are all into "Replacement Theology" which claims the church is the new Israel. Many churches who are among the World and National Council of Churches have taken action against Israel. The Presbyterian Church USA has encouraged the divestment of all assets from Israel to economically strangle her. How about economically strangling some nations the surround her who encourage their citizens to fly airplanes into U.S. buildings? These same denominations buy into "Palestinian revisionism" as well. The Episcopal Church is expected to do the same in the near future.
Recently the World and National Council of Churches had a "Day of Prayer for Peace" (in Israel). They quoted PA spokesman Hanan Ashrawi on a PA Web site as she talked about Middle East peace--a topic about which she knows absolutely nothing. She claims Jesus was not even Jewish but rather a Palestinian. The WCC and NCC conveniently did not mention that the same Web site showed official Palestinian religious leaders calling for genocide of the Jews.
The religious Left is pretty bankrupt spiritually and many have come to expect this and worse from them. They basically are perpetrating evil in the Name of God when it comes to their stand on Israel--and their attendance figures are dwindling.
I have been getting many emails and calls about "The Bible Answerman", Hank Hanegraaff. I used to listen to the founder of the Christian Research Institute, Dr. Walter Martin. Hank succeeded Martin in 1989. He is a good communicator and on many topics makes the complicated a bit easier to understand. I've recommended his magazine and received it for years until recently.
Hank has begun a new series of novels on Preterism which says all prophecy is history. In other words, the Tribulation and most of the book of Revelation took place in 70 AD. Nero was the antichrist. To learn more, visit my Web site, www.olivetreeviews.org, then go to "Prophecy Watch." A story near the top will give you the complete theological explanation. You can decide for yourself if you think it's valid. And while the series is going to be promoting Preterism, Hank does not want to come out and state frankly that he is a Preterist. Strange. The originator of the "Left Behind" series, Tim LaHaye, is a hard core Dispensationalist or futurist. Hanagraaff does admit to believing in "Replacement Theology", however--the church is the new Israel.
A follower of my ministry alerted me to a November 9, 2004 program of "The Bible Answerman" where Hank called Dispensationalists Nazis. Finding this unbelievable, I was able to find that broadcast on line and found it to be true. Whether he meant that to the full extent is hard to know and I choose to believe he didn't. What is ironic is that it was the Replacement Theology-infested Europe that let the real Nazis exterminate the Jews in WWII because they figured God was finished with them.
I have contacted Hank's publicist to arrange a debate on air on the topic of Preterism but am not able to get a return call. It most certainly would be friendly and I think very informative.
Pray for Mr. Hanegraaff. He has tremendous influence with his books and radio show. God has used him to do good things for the Kingdom.
If the Evangelical camp is beginning to turn on Israel, who is left to stand with her. A remnant is all that remains. The prophetic words of Zechariah 12 with all nations and people turning against her is coming to fruition before our eyes.
The hour is very late. That's the good news. Always look up.
Awaiting His return,
