"RE: Request for Movie
Recommendations"
Frank--
These are movies I would recommend. Don't know
how old your kids are-- some of these are only suitable for adults...especially
some of the war and gladiator-type movies. I would also stay away
from the newer Disney stuff-- some definite anti-Christian material...
Religious:
The Ten Commandments
Ben Hur
Cleopatra
Solomon's Mines (NOT King Solomon's Mines)
Solomon and Sheba
Jesus of Nazareth
The Greatest Story Ever Told
The Robe
Spartacus
David
Abraham
Moses
Joseph
Wonders of God's Creation
Veggie Tales (lots and lots of them out there)
Fiddler on the Roof
Christmas:
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Frosty the Snowman
How the Grinch Who Stole Christmas (original animated
one, not the new one)
It's a Wonderful Life (original version)
Miracle on 34th Street (original version)
A Christmas Carol (Dickens)-- the 2 older versions are
the best (1938 & 1951)-- I think it was
the 1951 one that was the really
good one
Charlie Brown Christmas
Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
Home Alone (there is a sequel, but I haven't seen it)
Nutcracker Suite (NOT Carebears-- get a traditional ballet
with orchestra version)
Handel's Messiah in Bethlehem (1999)
Secular:
K9
K911
K9 PI
Big Red One
Tora Tora Tora
The Longest Day
Bridge Over thw River Kwai
Saving of Private Ryan (violence and language-- for adults)
The Dirty Dozen
The Great Escape
Midway
A Bridge Too Far
Patton
Stalingrad
Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
Green Berets
Shindler's List
Diary of Anne Frank
The Devil's Arithmetic
Wizard of Oz
Snow White
Sleeping Beauty
Peter Pan (the old, original one)
Bambi
Gone with the Wind
Scarlett
Andersonville
Andersonville Trial
Gettysburg
Hunt for Red October
Bugs Bunny
Road Runner/Coyote
Apollo 13
The Right Stuff
Mutiny on the Bounty
Gladiator (violent, but no nudity, only one 4-letter
word (name of the dog), definitely for adults)
Dr. Doolittle (original)
Mary Poppins
Cinderella
Homeward Bound
101 Dalmations (and the sequel)
Incredible Journey (1963, not the 1993 remake)
That Darn Cat!
Lady and the Tramp
Jungle Book
Old Yeller
Lassie movies
Paul Bunyun (1958)
Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Back to Bataan (1945 black and white)
Sands of Iwo Jima
The Mouse that Roared (1959)
Pinocchio
Fantasia (1940)
other various John Wayne films (western & war)
TV show episodes on video:
Rin Tin Tin
Lassie
Andy Griffith Show/Mayberry RFD
MASH
Star Trek (original series doesn't have some of the objectionable
phiosophy found in the later series and the movies)
Perry Mason (old black and white series-- not the new
series)
Dragnet
Adam 12
Get Smart!
Hogan's Heros
Roy Rogers
Little House on the Prairie
If you go to http://www.Christianbook.com
and click on videos/DVDs, you will get to a section of movies, etc.
that should be fairly safe.
If you go to http://www.icr.org,
they have some truly outstanding material (including DVD/video).
Check out their cool creation videos... dinosaurs, etc. I have never
gotten anything bad from here. :-)
If you go to http://www.cph.org,
they have good Christian material. Note: this is a Lutheran
publishing house, so they will not have things like Left Behind (go to
CBD for that).
There are a lot of great movies that I deliberately omitted
because of new age, occult, extra-marital sex, nudity, unnecessary swearing,
and gratuitous violence...
Pray hard!
Fear not! Occupy. Look up!
