This question is answered beautifully in this Nelson Walters video clip. He presents his case quoting directly from scripture. I have long believed that we believers are taken away before Almighty God's wrath....meaning that we are rescued just prior to Great Tribulation. To deny that this world is already suffering, is to be wilfully blind. It is also pretty crystal clear that Israel will endure a vicious attack from her enemies in the very near future. This attack will instigate Almighty God's wrath. And we are NOT appointed to wrath!
Nelson mentions God's Holy Temple in this clip. I believe God's Holy Temple will descend from heaven. Many Orthodox scholars have written about this. The Temple resides in heaven at the present time. Once it descends, it's only a matter of time before the earthly AC plonks his derriere on God's throne, claiming himself to be God. Jerusalem will be a lawless, dangerous place during the Great Trib. The two witnesses are protected by Almighty God which enables them to keep witnessing for 42 months. Their deaths and resurrection is what will bring many to Christ.
I don't come to these conclusions lightly. I have studied and triple checked what the Bible has to say. It is very cryptic, so constantly praying for wisdom and clarity is the only way to catch a glimmer of understanding. Any man-made earthly Temple built now would NOT be referred to as God's Holy Temple in scripture. Only God's genuine Holy Temple can be referred to as such. I have linked Revelation 11:19 for your perusal regarding the Temple in heaven. The Ark of the Covenant is specifically for the Jewish people. Israel. The Ark is a powerful symbol of Almighty God's eternal covenant that He made with the Jewish people. This Ark resides in the Holy Temple in heaven - just as Revelation 11 tells us.
