Esdras was rejected by Jews, but accepted by most early Christians. Luther removed it from the Protestant canon. 2 Esdras 1:28-33 has many parallels with Matthew 23:34-39. Also, Esdras 8:61-9:6 has numerous parallels with Matthew 24:3-8, including predicting earthquakes as an end times sign. 2 Esdras 5:8 predicts women will give birth to monsters in the end times, potentially an explanation for our Savior's statement, "Woe to women pregnant and nursing in those days" (Matt 24:19) Note also this parallel
New Testament
Esdras
There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. (Matt 24:7-8) The beginning of groaning and an abundance of sighing! The beginning of famine, and many will perish; the beginning of wars, and powerful ones will be afraid; the beginning of disasters, and all will be terrified. Look, the disasters are approaching and won't be delayed. A woman in the ninth month of pregnancy, when the hour for giving birth arrives, experiences great pains around her womb for two or three hours beforehand, but when the infant is ready to come forth from the womb she doesn't delay for a moment. In the same way, these disasters won't delay to come forth on the earth, but the world will groan and pangs will envelop it (2 Esdras 16:18,38-40)
Compare Revelations 7:3-10 and 14:1-5 with 2Esdras 2:38-47
This is probably only a beginning at a comparison. There may be many other paralllels. I am drafting this based on what I remember.
Some people are convince Esdras is Divinely inspired, some people consider it a forgery. My commendation however is that you read it and decide for yourself.
