Solar Eclipse on 21 August 2017 and the United States

Five Doves has been an excellent source of information on astronomical signs of the Lord’s Return, including the past and coming Tetrads (in 2014 and 2015) and solar (the world) and lunar (Israel) eclipses.  I have found Luis Vega’s charts to be especially inspiring and thought provoking.  The total solar eclipse on 21 August 2017 may seem in the distance, but there may be a very important link back to 2012, including Rosh Hashanah.  There has been a lot of prophetic focus on 14 August 2012, and a week later is 21 August 2012 - this date is five years to 21 August 2017. 

Perhaps more importantly, my calculations indicate that Rosh Hashanah on 16 on 18 September 2012 is very close to five prophetic (360 day) years from 17 August 2017!  Another confirmation of the signs pointing to this Rosh Hashanah?  This letter relates primarily to Israel and the world, while for the Church the Rapture remains our imminent hope. 

Why might five years be important?  Genesis 45:11

And there I will sustain and provide for you, so that you and your household and all that are yours may not come to poverty and want, for there are yet five [more] years of famine.

In Genesis 45 we see a somewhat unusual reference to five years (of famine remaining).  This is the time when Jacob (Israel) came to live in Egypt (type of the world).  It would be heroic to suggest what this could mean for today, but one thought does come to mind.  Rather  than Israel taking pre-emptive action against Iran, Iran could attack the United States and/or Israel.  Israel could help win (in the short-term) this war with Iran, and gain acceptance by/in the world (just as Jacob/Israel gained acceptance in Ancient Egypt.  Israel could enhance this acceptance by going down the (wrong) path of agreeing to a Palestinian State.  These events would turn around some of the animosity towards Israel, and the way many nations treat Israel in international fora, particularly the United Nations.  Australia has recently restated its support for a Palestinian State, and expressed concerns about Israel’s building projects.  

Why the link to the United States?

The focus of the total solar eclipse on 21 August 2017 appears to be on the United States.  I have highlighted some of the features of this exceptionally rare total solar eclipse (from a United States perspective) below.  Further details are on Wikipedia (link provided).   One interesting aspect is that the longest duration will be in Christian County!  Obama and the United States are likely to play a pivotal role in garnering support for a separate Palestinian State, and this will place the United States in the cross-hair of God’s judgments, in the short and medium term. 

But there remains hope that through these judgments the nation will revert back to its origins as a deeply Christian nation, and also be fully reconciled with the first people.  The United States has been arguably the largest provider of missionaries and supporter of world needs, and these seeds will be honoured.  It seems that this 21 August 2017 eclipse carries strong prophetic importance.  After waiting all this time, it is interesting that there will be another total solar eclipse in parts of the United States on 8 April 2024 (within a seven year timeframe).

The first eclipse with a path of totality crossing the USA's Pacific coast and Atlantic coast since 1918!!!  The longest duration will be in Christian County, Kentucky!!!

A total solar eclipse will take place on Monday, August 21, 2017.  A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is larger than the Sun, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness.  Totality occurs in a narrow path across the surface of the Earth, while a partial solar eclipse will be visible over a region thousands of kilometres wide.

It will have a magnitude of 1.0306 that will be visible from a narrow corridor through the United States.  The longest duration of totality will be 2 minutes 40 seconds in the Bainbridge/Sinking Fork area of Christian County, Kentucky.  A partial solar eclipse will be seen from the much broader path of the Moon's penumbra, including all of North America, northern South America, western Europe, and Africa.

This eclipse is the 22nd of the 77 members of Saros series 145, the one that also produced the solar eclipse of August 11, 1999.  Members of this series are increasing in duration.

This eclipse will be the first total solar eclipse visible from the United States since 1991 (just from part of Hawaii), the first visible from the contiguous United States since 1979.

It will be the first with a path of totality crossing the USA's Pacific coast and Atlantic coast since 1918.  The path of this eclipse crosses the upcoming path of the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024.  A small land area, including the cities of Carbondale, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Paducah, Kentucky, will thus experience two total solar eclipses within a span of fewer than seven years.
