"Lewis Bracket:  Chicken or the Egg - which comes FIRST?"

Lewis,

I don’t believe the Great Tribulation has started, I could be wrong.  However, I would disagree with you as for the revealing of the son of perdition NOT being a prerequisite for the rapture.

You said this, “The rapture of the church happens BEFORE the antichrist is revealed.”  That contradicts 2 Thessalonians.

Which comes first according to Scripture?

2Th 2:1 KJV - Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and [by] our gathering together unto him,

2Th 2:2 KJV - That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

2Th 2:3 KJV - Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away FIRST, AND that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

In verse 1 Paul requests of his brethren, a proper understanding of Christ’s coming AND our gathering together unto Him (rapture).  His sentence continues in verse 2, the reason for his request so that they wouldn’t waiver about the day of Christ.  In verse 3 he assures them that 2 things must be fulfilled FIRST before that day of Christ comes:  1) there come a falling away FIRST, (here is the connector) AND 2) that man of sin be revealed.

The gathering together unto Christ in verse 1 cannot occur (that day shall not come) unless (ean me) these two connected things happen FIRST:

1.)  The apostasia – the great falling AWAY, defection and apostasy.

2.)  The apokalypto of the anthropos hamartia – the revealing of the man of sin.

It doesn’t get any simpler than that.

I’m not trying to deceive you.  (vs. 2) The day of the Lord shall not come unless there is a grand defection from the church and the antichrist is revealed.  Daniel 11 says that the vile person will be in league and have an understanding with those who have FORSAKEN THE HOLY COVENANT.  He is tying the two together as well.

Why would Paul describe the two warning signs if the church wouldn’t be there to see them (being raptured)?  Whom is John speaking to when he reveals the number of the beast in Rev. 13:18 ?  Let he who has wisdom, reckon the number of the man, to paraphrase.  Is it not the church?

Verse 7 says that the mystery of iniquity was already working, even back then when the CHURCH was STILL PRESENT and likely at its strongest.  It is ONLY our sovereign Lord who wills earthly power to whom he chooses.  When God’s purposes are complete he will no longer stand in the gap, between the antichrist and the power he desires.  He will have control for a total of 42 months (Revelation 13:5).

Respectfully,

Kevin Heckle
