"To John B.  (Isaiah 18 ,  America in prophecy )"

Dear John,

In 2007,  I became totally immersed in Isaiah 18.  In fact this group of prophecies, which tells us of the destruction of Damascus in Isaiah 17 , and Egypt in Isaiah 19, with what I feel is America's demise sandwiched in between,  in Isaiah 18.
I say immersed, because I commited the entire chapter to memory. I could just about recite it backwards. I even painted a mural of the graphic descriptions found in the 7 verses, on a small card table, with the words of the prophecy spiraling around the edge of the table.
I ate and breathed this chapter for months.
I don't claim to understand all of its cryptic message, and I do appreciate your comments and insight. The seven verses continue to intrigue me to this day.
Please allow me to offer a different slant.
Isaiah 18
1Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:
America is the most heavily air trafficked country in the world. Go to any map of world Airline routes, and you will see. Jets like great birds cover our skies, and shadow our land.
" Beyond the rivers of Ethiopia" I believe ,  is an expression, meaning far far away. Imagine yourself in Isaiah's day, even thinking of a country on an unknown  continent , many thousands of miles away.
2That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, No nation in the world has sent out ambassadors like America, especially in the last 100 years. "Shuttle diplomacy" was coined by American media.Remember Condoleeza Rice, in 2008 ?  to a nation scattered and peeled, Another intrepretation says tall , blond and bronzed . In 1992, I lived in Spain. The most popular TV program in the world was " Bay Watch ", with David Hasselhoff, and a host of beautiful women, running down the beach in slow motion. It was viewed by over 900 million people world wide each week. It was the symbol of America to the world. to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; In our inception, we declared our independance, 1776, and we whipped the Worlds Super Power, The British.  a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled! A land circuited by rivers. The mighty Mississippi, and all it's tributaries formed a grand interstate highway system, unsurpassed by any nation on earth.
3All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye. A future war in the Golan Heights ? Perhaps Ps 83, or Ezekiel 38-39? With America involved, or sitting in ashes  ?
4For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest. The Lord will sit and observe, while all these events unfold. The people of the earth will think He is ambivalent. Nuclear War ? Summer season ?
5For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.
6They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth: and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them. Now I tend to agree with some of your intrepretation of last days events and the harvest of souls, and possibly the ravished victims of all the destruction.
7In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount Zion. This last days people, America ?  will bring some kind of present to the people of Israel . A godly remmnant,  will rise from the devastation of war, and perhaps contribute to the building of the 3rd Temple. Maybe the present will be gold ? I can only speculate. Again, this is my intrepretation, and I do appreciate your post. I could write much more on this chapter, but time and space does not allow it.
