The name means STRAWBERRY and is believed to have been a local reference to some of the Scots who accompanied Mary (of Scotland) to France, i.e., a name they "picked up" there.  Why is not known, perhaps their red-hair, or perhaps they grew and / or appreciated strawberries ?
