"To Wendy re dreams"

Thank you so much Wendy. You kind words mean a lot to me.

It took me a long time to realize that the ability to understand the symbols in dreams was not an 'occult' thing...since I'd been 'told' (I call it Satan whispering in my ear) that it was one of the things that made me 'special'.

For quite a while after I became a Christian, it scared me that I still 'knew things'. Finally, as my husband and I were doing our Bible study together, we got to Joseph, and my eyes were opened to how dreams and their interpretation CAN come from God. Better still, I realized that just understanding the 'language' of dreams is a talent/gift that a person can have. Some people have a way with animals, some can read 'body language'...it was something like that. I really felt like Satan got a black eye the day I realized that 'he' was not the originator of that ability. I felt a freedom that added to the release/relief of salvation.

I always stress that what I 'get' from dreams are from my own understanding. Just like someone who is good at math can figure out a problem, or a wordsmith can read with understanding, I just sort of 'get' the way our brain uses symbols in dreams. I can usually tell when someone is just 'seeing' their own thoughts/fears/problems playing out in their dreams (since that is what God built us to do), but sometimes I can tell when a dream is truly prophetic (my kids have those)...trouble is, the real proof of those come after the fact. When we can look back and see that it did play out. I've always been confused as to why God would give me that, when usually I can't do anything about the events that are going to play out. I finally came to the understanding that the main thing is just to pray for His will. He's giving us a 'heads up' to things that will be, so we can be prepared and in prayer.

One time, my daughter dreamed that her friend had 'heart trouble', that he was going to suffer a 'pain in his heart' and that 'death' was involved. She couldn't 'get' if it was saying he was going to die, or someone he knew....she was also involved in the dream. We both prayed for him, She told him to get a check up (he was in the military). We talked about this early in the day one day...later that afternoon, she called me hysterical, her beloved dog Apple was killed by a train near her house, and it was her friend that found her. His heart was effectively broken (everyone loved that dog), he was also most likely the last person to see her, and possibly let her out of the apartment, so he carries the guilt/pain in his heart. Again, it's not always cut and dry, clear what the dream symbols are, and when they are 'future telling', I believe it's just God's way of trying to prepare us. We did not 'get' the meaning, but after the fact, it became really clear. I think that everyone can understand, but some people are better at it. Was there enough in her dream to have kept them from allowing the dog out? I don't know. She was so afraid (since the dream was so real and strong and she KNEW it meant something), that all she focused on was 'death' and her friend & his heart. There could have been other aspects of the dream she overlooked.

I believe that when Adam and Eve 'communed' with God in the Garden, 'we' spoke with him in a symbol type language..the language of dreams. I guess I won't know if I'm right till I get to meet him face to face.

Blessings~
