JAKARTA
– A moderate 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian province of
Maluku on Friday, the local Meteorological and Geophysics agency said,
but no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake struck at 3:58 pm
(0858 GMT), 317 kilometres (196 miles) northwest of Saumlaki at a depth
of 10 kilometres, according to the agency.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "ring of fire", where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
