I was in Bible College 1981-1982 when someone came back to our dorm with the full page ad in the LA times the announcement the Christ is here, he is the Christ to the Christians, Buddha to the Buddhist, Imam to the Muslims..ect..  It was publish all around the world in every large newspaper.
 
The shock and fear of the Antichrist was overwhelming to the students and everyone called home during that time.  For a few years I followed up, and shockingly, when Constance Cumby, an attorney delved into research on who this was, and the development of the Tara Center in LA (which my own brother went to and thought he was going to be the next world's religious leader which was scary to me as well) and she being a christian, the church just mocked her.  By in large many refused to hear what she was learning to alert other Christians about the rise of the New Age movement and Maitreya and Benjamin Creme.
 
It is no surprise to see the full resurgence of this as it never really went away.   New Age thinking has crept into the church without a whole lot of discernment.  A good read is David Hunt regarding the New Age.  I met him in Bible College as he counseled with me for about an half hour as I took my stance regarding an issue.  He gave strong support.
