When we step back for a minute and examine the bigger picture, there are several things to note:

1 - No 49th sabbath "shmita" year in 1947-1948 when arguably the biggest prophetic event of the 20th century occurred? Seems like a major strike against the "shmita" year scheme having any true significance, and thus we can reasonably not expect future events to always line up with "shmita" years.

2 - The events you noted in 1917 and 1967 are big events specifically for the nation of Israel, but not for the church. Logic would then dictate that if there's a significant "shmita" year coming up, it would portend a significant event for the nation of Israel again - like the building of the Third Temple, or its desecration.

3 - Let us all be careful not to put more emphasis on this "shmita" year calculation scheme which is mostly a Jewish rabbinical concept, than on the REAL events actually happening and all of which seem to line up with 2017. After all, the Jews today are in darkness spiritually, and it is very likely their calculations and calendars could be off as a result of their separation from God. (For example remember, they did add an entire leap-month to their calendars in the 4th century.)

4 - Also, while the Jews are the nation chosen for the lineage of the Messiah, God deals with ALL the nations during the Great Tribulation, which is a judgment against the ungodly as much as it is the period leading up to the spiritual regeneration of that generation of Jews. And thus signs related to that 70th week and its events would likely include warnings that ALL the nations would be able to see and, if they were able/willing, bring them to repentance. God always patiently warns, even while building up the crescendo to unleashing judgment. Thus we should expect many of the signs pointing to the coming Tribulation to line up with the regular calendar as well. And all of these seem to point to the 2010-2017 time period. The rapture may be mysteriously timed, but the coming massive judgment is not. God warns before He judges.

5 - One more reminder that the tetrad of eclipses in 2014-2015 are indeed a sign, but we do not and cannot know exactly as to what the refer at this time. We will only know after it happens (if we're even here). Given where they fall chronologically in the 2010-2017/2011-2018 time-frames, they most likely are a sign of the beginning of the Great Tribulation (the second half of the 70th week), or bracket the desecration of the Temple that happens around the halfway point. Either way, remember that the darkening of the sun & moon talked about in Matthew and Revelation is most likely going to be a supernatural event of much greater duration and significance than any mere eclipses, which last only a few minutes at most and are only observed by a small portion of the planet.
