Consider yourself blessed if you had only ear ringing twice and it stopped.  This happened to me a couple of times also in an ear I was sleeping on so I turned my head and slept on the other ear instead. I sleep on my stomach.  Some people live with ear ringing for the rest of their life.  It's a condition calle Tinnitus if you would like to do a google search on it.  My adult Sunday School teacher told us that he has constant ear ringing which he has to live with on a daily basis; it hasn't gone away.
