"To Chrissa Beck re high heart rate"
Chrissa, I am not a doctor, and I don’t know what
your problem is, but if you have what I have, I’d like to reassure you
it is not life-threatening. Frightening, YES! I have had
episodes of “PAT” – paroxysmal atrial tachycardia. Simply put, it
is a “short circuit” in the electrical wiring in the heart, and the
heartbeat just races. It lasts about an hour, then goes back to
normal. Afterwards I am very weak and tired. Medication can
control these episodes, they are called “beta blockers” or “calcium
channel blockers”. I haven’t had any episodes since I started
medication for it, about 3 years ago. It is hereditary, and my
daughter gets them, too. A minor surgical procedure (requiring
only sedation) can “zap” the spot in the heart where the short circuit
originates, but I’ve not had that done.
I am praying for you, Chrissa.
