It is too bad that she put her faith in a Church and an institution and when it failed her she left. Had she put her faith in Christ and not Church perhaps this would be different. But, I agree with you John, it sounds as though she has never been born again to begin with. She misses so many points. For example, Christians are not anti-gay but anti-sin. Who did Jesus eat with, sinners and publicans, the sick not the healthy.
