What’s so big about the Moon anyway?

The Prophetic Parable of the Moon

~

Psalm 89:7

          “It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in        heaven. Selah.”

“It shall be established” = gematria value = 76 (as in Spirit of 76’)

The Preview Parable of First Fruits

As I had mentioned previously in regards to Joshua and Israel taking the Promised Land, Jericho was a first fruits city.  Jericho means “moon”.  We obtained insight into a future fulfillment as the Heavenly “Joshua” – Jesus visited and affirmed the earthly Joshua.

Have you ever been to a movie?  Of course you have – who hasn’t.  At the beginning you are able to see “previews” of the coming movies to entice you to see them at a later date.  They whet your appetite and yet you can’t see them now, but you must watch for the release of the movie at a future date.  And so this fascinating parable suffices to help us understand what is going on in the Promised Land conquest early on with Jesus and Joshua.

God invented the preview.  He wants to “whet” your appetite for a grand finale movie starring His son Jesus coming soon to a theatre near you.  The Bible has lots of information about it, but it is somewhat “hidden”.  What do I mean by this?  Let’s ask Jesus:

Matthew 13:12-14

12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever   does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables:  "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: " 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.

Luke 8:9-11

9His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10He said, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, " 'though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.'

Jesus is the “Great Teacher”.  There is none better.  If you continued to read the passage just quoted in Luke Jesus went on to explain the parable.  He taught His followers so that they would understand.  He is still doing this today!  How wonderful and amazing and what a fantastic opportunity.

Let me go through a quick example that may be helpful.  Most people recognize that Abraham’s near sacrifice of Isaac as a “prophetic parable” or parallel to God the Father sacrificing His son Jesus for our sins.  As such, do you think this is the only “prophetic parable” in the Bible?  I can assure you it is not.

The wisdom of God is endless.  Parables are such a perfect way to teach those he wants to teach.  Consider the parable I just used myself regarding the preview and the movie theatre.  If you are “seeking” this is a common, everyday happening that anyone can understand.  All that is required is a “heart” and desire to learn new things about God.  It fits the formula:

Jeremiah 29:13

          “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

But if someone’s heart is not looking for truth within God’s word, they may think - “what a bunch of nonsense.”  It’s like Sherlock Holmes hiding something right out in the open instead of locking it in a safe – it’s ingenious.  It does exactly what God says He would do:

1 Corinthians 1:19

            19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to        nothing the understanding of the prudent.

And…

Isaiah 42

          16 I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
          along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
          I will turn the darkness into light before them
          and make the rough places smooth.
          These are the things I will do;
          I will not forsake them.

          17 But those who trust in idols,
          who say to images, 'You are our gods,'
          will be turned back in utter shame.

We all have lots of learning to do.  Peter who walked with Jesus could not see God was doing something new with the gentiles until God showed him a vision.  Paul who was a learned Pharisee had to be knocked to the ground by a great light.  Many times Old Testament Patriarchs only moved when God brought the famine.  It is similar today.

We move out of absolute necessity and desperation.  Even Hagar the forsaken maidservant who was sent out into the desert with her son cried out to God and was heard.  She called Him “El Roi” – “The God who sees me”.  This is a journey of the heart not the intellect, but you don’t have to check your brain at the door.  Keep it in working order for safe passage – God gave it to you for a reason.  It is God who says in Isaiah “…come let us reason together”.

So as we talk about these new mysteries let’s do just that – “reason together”.
