Reading of the mine safety violations in Utah, I remember my own family
members who were disabled or died in mines, fires, or railway
accidents. My grandfather, Martin Elliott Sr., went to jail for striking in the
Pullman strike. Later he was killed in a railway accident. There were
no survivor beneifts. His kids would not go down in the mines of
Butte, so they went to Seattle and the boys became firemen. One was
disabled for life in the Frye Hotel fire, while the other became a
Training Captain for Safety. There were no unions, but the family
fought for their establishment. Now, unions are a "bad word," in part because of corruption in the
unions, but even more because of a re-established sense of greed in the
nation.Other members of that family died in mines, but I did not know them.
I have been weeping over the struggles of that branch of my family
today, and saying to God "please deliver us from evil!" All evil,
including that evil. I long to see my Uncle Marty again, the one
disabled in the Frye Hotel fire, and my aunt Helen who died of cancer
because of inadequte medical care for the poor. This post may run contrary to the ideas of some on this forum, dear
Doves. But it is something I felt I needed to express, for I need
family deliverance from this evil, and from the evil on the other side
of my family as well, which was a different "kettle of fish," involved
probably with greed.Deliver us from all family curses, whatever they are, Yahweh.
