Dear Kay,
I enjoyed your post concerning the scarlet worm (towla) and how it illustrates Jesus Christ on the cross. (http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/aug2007/kay87.htm) Things like this confirm my suspicions that God has put illustrations and types of Jesus Christ and other spiritual truths throughout our natural world. We only have to look for them. Who would have thought that a worm could point to Christ? But then Psalm 22 – the prophetic Psalm of Christ on the cross – does say the following: "But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people." Psalm 22:6.
My husband and I are hardcore Disney World fans. We have made annual pilgrimages there for years. We went on one of their backstage tours and were told that the design of 3 circles, representing the face and ears of Mickey Mouse, are incorporated throughout the park. They are called Hidden Mickey’s. And if you look, you will see the design in furniture, pictures, topiary, lampposts, etc. Perhaps, as Christians, we should look for the Hidden Christ’s that God has put in our own world. Some have been pointed out for us already. For example, the Bible has compared Christ to a rock, living water, a root, and a lamb. But some illustrations are not so obvious – like the scarlet worm. It is a real blessing when one of these "harder" illustrations is revealed.
I believe that God wants us to look for His fingerprints in everything He has created. "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings." Proverbs 25:2. In fact, the unsaved will be held accountable for ignoring these fingerprints. "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." Romans 1:20. Our merciful God had gone out of His way to communicate to mankind – to give us proof of His existence.
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world." Psalm 19:1.
Maranatha!
