Daniel takes us to the final evening of Babylon_s kingdom glory among the nations. Belshazzar felt secure within the walls of the great city, in spite of being surrounded by enemies _ the Medes and Persians. This was the night when the head of gold would be replaced by the arms and chest of silver. Babylon had run its course, and God was in control. The hand that wrote upon the wall of the banquet room was the hand of God. He was there, and fully involved in the affairs of men. That was the night when Belshazzar desecrated God_s holy vessels and was judged for it.
