"Re: Question About Tithing vs. Giving"

Re: your question.

See my essay on this subject at http://choicesforliving.com/spirit/part4/tithing.htm

I love John Hagee but like most pastors I believe he has it wrong on tithing, for the many reasons I state.

From Bible colleges and seminaries, it is engrained into all pastors that they must raise funds for their churches by putting congregants under the law of Moses and intimidating them to give tithes to their local church, and only there.  It is a self-serving interpretation and simply not scriptural.

However, there is nothing wrong with using 10% as a guideline for some people.  Give where and how much you are led by the Spirit -- that is the New Covenant way.  It may or not be the local church.  Some give according to the "Melchezadeck Principle" -- that is, give to where you are blessed, as did Abraham.

Regardless, remember the New Covenant principle: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38).
