Dear John, Tony, and all Doves,
Thank you Tony Ellsworth for your two most recent posts. For ancient Israel, in an arid part of the world, rain was vitally important. There were the periods of the former rain and the latter rain. The seasons, for them, were like the spring/summer and then the autumn/winter. And it is interesting that the additional sabbaths or feasts are related to spring and to autumn. This year the Feast of Trumpets is before the autumnal equinox, when there is an equal time of daylight and darkness . The new moon begins technically on 9-11-07 at 12:44 U.T. The universal time is at Greenwich, England. We then go towards the 12th in Israel and their midnight hour. It still will be 9-11 in America. When does the feast start? There are dates that range from 9-11 to 9-14. Whichever day, summer will still be here and at the gates. If we see ourselves as still in spring or spring/summer we are still in summer at the gates. Whether is is starting or ending we are still in summer at the gates. Like in the times of Noah is there still a warm landscape now? Yes, people can still be in season to marry or build or plant some late crops that will mature quickly before the autumnal frosts arrive after 10-15 or thereabouts.
Is this the season? Perhaps. This month of teshuvah is a great time to prepare. There is a fine collection about the reasons Miriam Howard is looking to late April of 2008. Click on the link provided by Sam Orlando in his 8-22 post. Thank you Sam, she has a number of interesting articles. Whatever the season will be, may we be preparing and watching. With Love and Shalom,
