Samaria Poured and Planted #409

also Av 30, 5766 original calendarWe know that Omri was the king who built the city of Samaria as his capitol almost 3000 years ago. The city was named for the mountain on which it was built, Mt. Sameron. The mountain stands up in the middle of a large and unusually circular valley in what was then the northern kingdom of Israel. The Jews had split into two kingdoms and the southern half was called Judah.
They constructed terraces from the flat valley floor four hundred feet up the sides of the mountain. About 2033 years ago (27BC), after the Romans had conquered there, the appointed governor, Herod, built stone palaces and temples around the terraces and ruled a large area of the world from there.
Then along came Islam about 1300 years later in 1265 AD. Muslims destroyed the city and it has never been rebuilt. They hated Jews, Romans, and CHRISTians who had all ruled the city. They displayed their hate be leveling the buildings. This was the ninth time the city was conquered and destroyed.
Arabs who moved in cleared much of the mess so they could farm the terraces. It was easiest to push the large building stones down over the terraces to the valley floor below. Grape vines were planted in cleared places. You can still see this today plus olive trees added some places. This is very unusual because conquered cities were usually rebuilt with the same stones.
The Bible says in Micah 1:6 “For I will make Samaria a heap of ruins in the open country, planting places for a vuneyard. I will pour her stones down into the valley, and will lay bare her foundations.”
This was written about 2756 years ago and is exactly what happened.
1. “…heap of ruins in the open country…” - the stones were stacked in piles on the valley floor so they would not cover as much land just like we clear farmland today.
2. “…for a vineyard…” - Herod chose this city to rule from because it was cooler than Jerusalem. The grapes grow better on the terraces of Samaria.
3. “…stones down into the valley…” - usually saved/reused as eight times before.
Micah 1:6 is another unexpected, but perfectly accurate prophesy in The Bible more than two thousand years before it happened.
