"re CAPS: "Length of the Church Age""

I also used to think that the third (last) 2000 cycle of man started at Pentecost, but I had trouble squaring it with the date of 4004 BC given by Bishop Ussher as the year Adam was created. If I am not mistaken, all dates and chronologies (Noah and the Flood, Exodus, Jews carried into captivity etc. hinge on that date. Were we to cut the three 2000 year segments into equal parts, then Adam would have to have been created circa 3960 BC in order to stretch the end of the 6000 years to 2032 AD. CAPS, could you or someone else knowledgeable shed some light on this thorny issue of how we justify Adam created in 4004 BC, Jesus returning in 2032 AD and all this happening in the exact space of 6000 years?
