That exact same thought occurred to me.  Normally the 9th of Av, and the historical tragedies around this date were God's judgment on Israel.  But the war of Ezekiel 38/39, God is not judging Israel, He is going to fight for them.  However, I also believe that the agony of going through these wars are labor pains to push the secular Israelis back to the God of their fathers, and eventually call out in one accord for their long awaited Messiah.
