This is to correct my post from yesterday. The solar eclipse actually occurred on August 11th (day of the post!) with Elul 1 occurring on August 13th as stated. http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/aug2006/danielm811.htm
 
However, this does not affect any of the calculations.
 
What is interesting is that the day I posted this conclusion, concerning the importance of the 9th of Av and the Golden Proportion, was August 11th and still is as I write this. My error was pointed out to me by Bonnie Gaunt whose birthday is August 11th. She turned 70 at the eclipse of 1999 and is now turning 77. She is also the one who helped implant the idea of the Golden Proportion in my mind within the past few weeks.
 
I also want to thank a Baptist pastor who pointed out that August 14th was 40 days from Rosh Hashanah and that it was the day WWII ended. This coupled with Charles Holler pointing out that 9/11 was 40 days after the 9th of Av, made me look further. So we will have to wait and see what may happen on 8/14, 8/22, and 9/11.
