Some of us are afforded many opportunities to ask the question:So you think Heaven and Earth will Pass Away at the Rapture?
When someone parrots that no man knows the day or hour of the rapture.
I agree with Eric in:
http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/aug2005/ericc824-1.htm
Where he states:
By the way, in regards to the idea that the rapture timing is forever unknowable, the all-time favorite verse quoted is usually Matthew 24: 36 and Mark 13: 32 The only problem (among others), in the application of these two verses (and it is a big one), is that in both cases the previous scripture verses are not even speaking of the rapture.
Eric goes on to state that for Matthew 24:32-34 and Mark 13:28-32 a new point is being made. I would state that just Matthew 24:32-34 and Mark 13:28-30 can even be considered self contained points by themselves. And Matthew 24:35-36 and Mark 13:33-34 can be considered self contained points by themselves. I can see no reason in fact why the latter self contained points need to be considered separate verses as the "but" in the second verse modifies the first verse just as the previous "but" in the first verse modifies the statement that preceded it. And the verse number breaks are arbitrary anyway as they were put in later, as were the translation punctuation.Consider the following, only changing a period to a comma. The meaning is the same, just maybe a little clearer.
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away, but of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. (Matthew 24:35-36)
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away, but of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. (Mark 13:31-32)
Shalom!
