Brutal terrorists are no nationalists

By FRANCIS BROADHURST

Many of us have patiently waited for the left-wing, anti-Bush, anti-war protest professionals to get a grip on themselves and come to their senses. It hasn't happened.

Instead, our Ivory tower utopians have become more vicious and negative. Nationally known lefties and their local ''amen'' choirs have unleashed one of the nastiest campaigns in history to discredit those who disagree with them about the war, terrorists, the fight to restore sanity to the U.S. Supreme Court, and other issues. Militant left-wing zealots are easy to spot. Despite pious protestations to the contrary, they seek to portray conservatives as neo-Nazis, born-again Hitlers and racist thugs who beat up on the poor. Their highly organized, well-funded efforts to substitute fiction for fact are so far fetched it is laughable. But I'm not laughing. They may be winning the propaganda war.

One of my correspondents ''informed'' me that the segregationists and white supremacists of the South have all reverted to their ''Republican'' roots of the 19th century. He apparently forgot the Republican Party did not exist in the ante-bellum South. The GOP, which propelled Abe Lincoln into the presidency, was the party of abolition, free soil, and hard money.

Somehow the racist, anti-Semitic leanings of the Southern Democrat party, with its roots in Jeffersonian devotion to slavery, soft money and an agrarian economy, gets pushed behind a curtain.

Lies can have the desired effect sought by those deep thinkers who consider our Constitution a formula for national suicide. Throw enough mud and some will stick. History is so poorly taught in America and seldom learned, neo-lefties often get away with their whoppers. They wrap themselves in the flag and then proceed to burn it to protest Amerika - the new Nazi Reich out to do us in.

They call themselves ''patriots'' and consider terrorists who butcher the innocent ''nationalists'' fighting oppressive American imperialism.

Bush-haters either start out or end up calling our president a liar who ''stole'' the 2000 election. They start or end up saying Bush ''lied to the American people'' to get us in a war of imperialism in the Middle East.

They neglect to admit that Bush was lied to or misinformed by the very people we pay to protect us. They ignore the fact that President Clinton, Congress, the United Nations, France, Germany and the rest of the Free World all believed Saddam Hussein had stockpiled weapons of mass destruction, used them against Iran as well as his own people prior to American and British enforcement of previously unenforced U.N. sanctions.

It is easy for them to shovel this malarkey. They don't have to believe it, but they seem compelled to keep playing the same song. It has been part of the liberal mantra since they tried to hijack the 2000 election in Florida and other places where they could stuff the ballot boxes.

These political lemmings love to compare the war on terror with Vietnam. The only similarity to Vietnam is the virulence of the organized anti-war protesters. Back then, LBJ lied to get the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution passed; his Defense Secretary, Robert McNamara, now admits he deliberately lied to the American people. The politicians micro-managed that war and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Today, ''Islamo-fascists'' have sworn to destroy or enslave all Christians and Jews as they pursue a brutal perversion of Islam. Those who call these murderous beasts ''nationalists'' make a mockery of tolerance. They are the ''useful idiots'' so eloquently described by Lenin, who used the alleged intelligentsia to undermine freedom everywhere in the name of international brotherhood.

They proclaim they support our troops; but they undermine them and encourage an enemy pledged to destroy us. The terrorists learned much from our anti-war movement, but our homegrown protestors have learned nothing.
