Tens of thousands of pullout opponents gathered at the Western Wall plaza in Jerusalem on Wednesday evening to pray for the cancellation of the disengagement plan, due to go into effect next week.
"Just like in Sodom, the government has decided on an action that is inconsistent with morality," one rabbi said, referring to the Bible's account of a licentious town destroyed by God.
Former chief rabbis Avraham Shapira, Mordechai Eliyahu and Ovadia Yosef, who is also the spiritual leader of the ultra-Orthodox Shas party, took part in the rally.
The prayer rally lasted for several hours and ended peacefully.
Police sources said 50,000 people had attended the rally, while settler leaders put the number at twice as many.
