"Coded
messages in the 42 Journey Pattern"
The 42 Journey Pattern in the Wilderness contains various coded messages. Here's an example of one you may have seen before about the Good News in the names of the patriarchs from Adam to Noah.....
Name Meaning Adam Man Seth Appointed Enosh Mortal Cainan Sorrow / Lamentation Mahalalel The praise[d] [one] of God Yared Descend Enoch Dedicate or teach or train Methushelah His death shall bring Lamech Despairing, the lowly or brought low Noah Rest or comfort When we string these names together we get
"Man [is] appointed mortal sorrow. The Praised One of God [shall] descend teaching. His death shall bring the despairing rest/comfort."
That is the crux of the Gospel message, hidden in the names of the patriarchs. It was neither an accident nor coincidence, but something ordained by the Almighty, who said, " so are my ways higher than your ways." (Isa/Yesh 55:9) So if we can see the Gospel message in the string of names from Adam to Noah, then why should we be surprised to find yet another similar message like this in Numbers/B'Midbar 33 where it says...
"5 The Israelites left Rameses and camped at Succoth. 6 They left Succoth and camped at Etham, on the edge of the desert. 7 They left Etham, turned back to Pi Hahiroth....." (Num 33:5-7)
We find similar messages when we string together the names of the places Israel camped at in the wilderness, but it is no where as easy of a message to assemble. Not only are there more names with over 42+ names involved (actually over 50+), but the meaning of each encampment is often far more complex than the names of the patriarchs, and one must figure out a number of things before he can even begin examining whether there's another message at a higher level. The meaning of each stage is often deeper and richer than a single word can express, and sometimes we have to decode several words to finally figure out what a particular encampment is saying to us. Here's one such example....
"Arnon is on the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites."
(Numbers/B'Midbar 21:13)The meanings:
- Arnon can mean one of two things; "I will shout for joy" or "I will slander". Very opposite things, but it can mean either.
- Moab means "Who is my father?" or "What is my origin?"
- Amorite means "sayer"
What does the border of Moab ("What is my origin?") and Amorite ("sayer") land represent? It represents the merger of these two concepts, which gives us the question "What will I originate to say?" Arnon is the answer to that question, which is, "I will shout for joy." The encampments that follow describe to us what happens when a man speaks joyful words in his life under difficult circumstances.
Now it gets even more fascinating when we begin putting the meaning various stages with the stages that came before and after it to see if there are any other messages as we string the names together. Often, we actually begin to see layers of messages in the encampments and how they flow together. The examples of this, however, take a while to explain and setup an explanation for because it is far more complex than the message in the names of the patriarchs. I could almost wish there were more examples as simple as that one that would not require that I take 30 minutes to explain the meaning behind 6 names or so in order to explain the message you get when you string them together, but the book "The 42 Journey Pattern..." does dig into this issue stage by stage, name by name, finding multiple layers of meanings and messages that are completely fascinating.
Not only is the 42 Journey Pattern full of great advice on how to live life, but it will provide you with a much deeper understanding of other seemingly disconnected stories in the Scriptures as well. For example, Balaam met Balak in Arnon. How fitting!!! Because the question, "What will I originate to say?" was the question of the day as Balaq waited, hoping Balaam would say one thing, when he ended up saying another. And just as Arnon can mean slander or shouting for joy, Balaq asked Balaam to speak evil over Israel with a curse, but instead, he spoke a blessing. After you read about the 42 Journey Pattern, you may find that you're seeing new things in the rest of Kings, Chronicles, the Prophets, etc., that you never saw before!
The 42 Journey Pattern holds the keys to understanding our spiritual growth, as well as understanding the prophecies to the Messiah's first and second coming. You'll be able to see where the Torah proclaims the Gospel message as well as his second coming, and understand the book of Revelation like never before!
