When I was in second grade - 1959 - (I'm dating myself now!) and ONLY that year ALL my classmates and I were given chocolate flavored iodine tablets.  We were told this was to combat a goiter condition.  Ours was a small rural school in a farming community in north central Wisconsin.

Now of course I realize it strange that EVERYONE in our class had to take the pills.  And I've been reading that iodine is related to nuclear effects.  I think we were used for a research program WITHOUT our knowledge!

Just wondering if anyone else had this experience?
