When I read your post I could not believe that there was actually someone out there that feels the same way I do.  I have been praying almost every night for the conversion of hearts.  For Bush, for Kerry, for all politicians, for the unsaved and I have a soft spot for the african and middle eastern children who are very deprived I feel physically and spiritually.
I have posted before that no change in laws is going to work.  Only a change in hearts with the help of the Holy Spirit.  I keep trying to ask God for understanding on other views and all I get is "pray for the well-being of everyone"  and that is exactly what I will continue to do.
