"re: Shooting Star"

Hi Doves,

Donna's post about shooting stars brought something to mind that I witnessed last Feb. 2004.

This is NOT a political endorsement, it's just something I wanted to share.

Because I have NEVER seen any U.S. President in person and I'm getting older every year, ha ha, I decided to go to a John Kerry rally only to see someone who might become president. It was before Super Tuesday, and I figured it was my only chance, because after that candidates get harder to see in person, and forget it once they become president.  And since I don't have tons of money or influence, or connections politically, I thought this might be an opportunity. (Although,I once saw Carter's secret service limo at a Missouri gas station, and got caught in traffic behind Reagan's motorcade in Illinois).

The rally was being held at a union hall in San Jose, Ca. and I had to drive there a ways with my spouse.  When we got there, long lines already were formed around the block and beyond, and I wanted to give up.  But my spouse talked me into getting in line.  It was night and there were rumors that we "might" all fit in the building, or Kerry would come out, etc.  As we slowly inched around the block for an hour, I suddenly saw a shooting star over the union hall.  And I wasn't the only one, my spouse saw it and others in line said, "look at the shooting star!"   The thing that was interesting was the shooting star was low in the sky over the hall and still showed up brighter than the street lights.

We didn't get in and Kerry didn't come out, there was heavy security everywhere.  I did see Cruz Bustamante, Lt. governor of CA, and the Mayor of Oakland, Jerry Brown, walking the lines outside the hall.  Anyway, that's what I saw.
