We can't put Matt. 24:28 together with Rev. 19:17-21. The
events take place at different times. The Pre-Wrath Rapture is at least 7
months before Armageddon.
To help us sort this out, let's look at the sequence of
events:

"Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the
great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings...", Rev. 19:17
In the light of that, here is the way I understand the
following verses.
The whole block, Mt. 24:27-31, takes place on the
Eve of Trumpets and the Feast of Trumpets. The PRE-WRATH RAPTURE is the "last
trump" of I Cor. 15:51,52. It sounds sometime during the night or morning
of Tishri 1, the Feast of Trumpets. The asteroid of Rev. 8:8 impacts the
Mediterranean Sea at "noon day" (Zeph. 2:3-5) on Tishri 1, the Day of God's
Wrath.
Mt. 24:27-31 says, "as the lightning cometh out of the east,
and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming (in the air at the
Pre-Wrath Rapture) of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the
carcase (dead body, i.e., dead ones in Body of Christ) is (even the OT
saints in Paradise were taken to Heaven on Resurrection Day, two
days after Jesus said this), there will the eagles (live Tribulation
saints) be gathered together (i.e., in Heaven).
29 Immediately
after the tribulation of those days (at the SIXTH SEAL, Rev. 6:12f) shall
the SUN BE DARKENED, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall
fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And
then (after the 6th seal is broken) shall appear THE SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN
in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see
the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great
glory.
31 And (at the time the Sign of the Son of Man is seen) he shall
send his angels with a great sound of a TRUMPET (i.e., at the 'last trump'
of I Cor. 15:51,52, the last Rapture), and they shall GATHER TOGETHER HIS
ELECT from the four winds, from one end of HEAVEN to the other."
On this Feast of Trumpets, the saints already in Heaven since
the Pre-Trib Rapture, will be gathered from the ends of Heaven to "the general
assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God
(Christ) the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect"
(Heb. 12:23).
Mark 13:24-27 covers the same time span as Mt. 24:27-31. In
Mark 13:24-27, Jesus said, "in those days (Eve of Trumpets and Feast of
Trumpets), after that tribulation (SIXTH SEAL), the sun shall be darkened, and
the moon shall not give her light,
25 And the stars (aster, i.e., the
asteroids of Rev. 8:8 and 10) of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are
in heaven shall be shaken.
26 And then shall they see the Son of man
coming in the clouds with great power and glory (this is the Sign of the Son of
man seen in the sky, not the
Second Advent).
27 And then (on
the Day of God's Wrath, but before the SEVENTH SEAL is broken), shall he
send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from
the uttermost part of the EARTH (THE PRE-WRATH RAPTURE) to the uttermost part of
HEAVEN" (those previously taken to Heaven in the Pre-Trib Rapture).
The two Raptures are called the "days (plural) of the son
of man" in Luke 17:22-37. The Pre-Trib Rapture ("open door," Rev. 3:8) is
the first Day of the Son of Man. It is as the days of Noah. The Lord shut the
door. Rain (symbol of the Holy Spirit) fell that same day.
The 2nd Day of the Son of Man is as the days of Lot. Fire fell
that same day. Luke 17:29 says, "But the SAME DAY that Lot went out of Sodom it
rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all." That is the day
of the Pre-Wrath Rapture on the Day of God's Wrath, when fire and brimstone will
fall.
Of the Feast of Trumpets, Joel 1:15; 2:1-3 says, "Alas for the
day! for the DAY OF THE LORD is at hand, and as a DESTRUCTION from the Almighty
shall it come....Blow ye the TRUMPET in Zion, and sound an
alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the
DAY OF THE LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
2 A day of darkness and
of gloominess, a day of clouds and of THICK DARKNESS, as the morning spread upon
the mountains: a great people and a strong (Gog's army, Eze. 38); there hath not
been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of
many generations.
3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a
flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a
desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them."
Of the Day of God's Wrath, Eze. 38:18-20 says, "it shall come
to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith
the Lord GOD, that MY FURY SHALL COME UP IN MY FACE.
19 For in my
jealousy and in the fire of MY WRATH have I spoken, Surely in that day there
shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;
20 So that the fishes
of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all
creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the
face of the earth, shall shake at my presence (paniym, face, i.e., the SIGN OF
THE SON OF MAN seen in the sky), and the mountains (asteroids of Rev. 8:8 and
10) shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall
shall fall to the ground.
21 And I will call for a sword against him
throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man's sword shall be
against his brother.
22 And I will plead against him with pestilence
and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many
people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and
brimstone.
23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I
WILL BE KNOWN IN THE EYES OF MANY NATIONS (they will SEE THE
SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN), and they shall know that I am the LORD."
Eze. 39:11-13 says, "And it shall come to pass in that day,
that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the
passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the
passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall
call it The valley of Hamongog.
12 And SEVEN MONTHS
SHALL THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL BE BURYING OF THEM, THAT THEY MAY CLEANSE THE
LAND.
13 Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall
be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified (i.e., at the Second
Advent), saith the Lord GOD."
I hope this helps us to understand Mt. 24:28
correctly.
